The National Lutheran Health and Medical Board (NLHMB) is the health and medical wing of the United Evangelical Lutheran Church in India. This non governmental organization has been engaged in Health care, Education, Community development and disaster management for the past two decades (www.nlhmb.in). NLHMB is proactive in the area of health care which does not mean the absence of disease, but a way of life that promotes the total well being of the person-adversely affected when the social, cultural and economic, environmental and political conditions are not conducive. We are a pioneering organization to respond to various emergencies like HIV/AIDS, Natural Disasters like earthquake, flood, Tsunami etc. that has a devastating effect on our society and economy. NLHMB follows a holistic and integrated approach which caters to the developmental needs of communities and individuals.
The other activities of NLHMB include:
- Martin Luther Christian University in Shillong, Meghalaya, a development university committed to development of the North East Region. Health Sciences education is on of its largest departments (www.mlcuniv.in)
- Institute of Health Sciences, Cuddalore, Tamil Nadu. The objective of this institution is to develop community level health workers particularly for rural health care needs.
- Academy for Disaster-Management, Education and Training (ADEPT) - to train human resource for disaster preparedness and mitigation. (www.adeptasia.org)
